Archives for “Snapper”

Here it is the final day, yes thirty days fishing over, didn’t think I’d make it a few times… So where to finish it off? I decided to head for the open ocean rather then the estuary or a harbour.

Yay, day 29, the end is now well and truly in sight! As you know I didn’t go North for the weekend and ended up back in Auckland yesterday afternoon. Was good to surprise the family as they didn’t know I was heading back, there was another reason for coming back to Auckland…

After such good conditions last night, and a nice clear day all day today, I planned on heading out of Matapouri, and paddling around and fishing the heads between Matapouri and Tutukaka.

After a weekend of paddling, the body was against a big paddle, but hey, it’s only 2 km and a bit to Goat Island from Whangaumu Bay, what’s another 2 km… I’m sure it’ll be worth it, well I hope so at least!

It’s been a pretty miserable day here in Whangarei today, it’s been raining for most of the day so it was going to be a wet one for sure. The good thing was that the wind was pretty absent today so I thought it would be a good time to head out in front of [...]

After coming to the conclusion that Whangaumu isn’t holding any Snapper, well at least for me in the center or northern side, I decided to try back in the Whangarei harbour where at least I picked up several fish on Sunday…

Day 16 and it’s the day of the King of the Harbour Fishing Competition, a local Whangarei competition, a friend of mine, Paul (Technical) came down from Auckland on Saturday night to join me, so could either of us be crowned King of the Harbour?

I’m living in Ngunguru in a house which is only about 300m from the estuary but apart from the one day I fished off the rocks I haven’t actually fished locally, so tonight I took the kayak off the roof of the car, put it on my C-Tug trolley, loaded all my gear on, and [...]

Day thirteen, will at least it wasn’t unlucky… Tonight I headed down to Urquharts Bay at the end of the Whangarei heads for a bit of a practice and look around before the King of the Harbour competition on Sunday (Day 16)

Right so with the finger all patched up it’s time to head back on to the water, the weather is closing in and looks like it’s going to be a wet one, but hey I’ve got waterproofs…

I’m back up north, and this has to be my best day yet, no monster fish but beautiful conditions and a few fish caught including my first Kingfish…

Alarm goes off at 5:00am, oh really is it 5:00am already, doesn’t feel like I’ve had any sleep, I’m feeling like this whole thing is getting a bit much, ah well, time to get up and head to Narrowneck…

Another day another new location, this time I fished out of Marsden Marina, I launched and went with the current flow out past the timber port and carried on past the oil refinery wharf too.

Here we are day six already, that’s 20% of the way through! Tonights fishing was done in another new location, Tutukaka harbour.
