Up at 5:15, on the beach at 5:30, paddling out the harbour to watch the sun rise

Outside the harbour was a bit rougher, half a meter rolling swell coming through

Well I fished and fished and fish, I tried all over, in front of Red Rock, over to the reef off the big island on the right (south) of the entrance, and nothing but Leather Jackets!!! I went through good 20+ softbaits, these guys will eat anything, Glup, Slam, and even plastic baits! I just couldn’t get away from them, nor could I catch one… So decided to head north over to Rocky Bay and try my luck there.

By this time the sea has changed from clam rolling swell to “slight” but was stil ok, the southerly had picked up to a steady 8-10 knots so I was assisted all the way to Rocky Bay

Things had roughed up a by the time I got there…

Aaargghhh all the way over here and the Leather Jackets are here too, after about five drops on different places a HOOK UP!!! And a bit of a fight to get with it, this isn’t a Leather Jacket…

Image

It’s a bloody Pigfish (Male) Scarlet Wrasse, aarrgghh!

Ok enough of the paddling time to stretch the legs

Image

A bit more fishing which should have just been called “feeding Leather Jackets”, time to head home…

Hmm the slight sea is now officially rough… a good 2m between peak and trough with 50% of them breaking… and a 15 knot head wind all the way back to the harbour, ah well I need the exercise

Image

Back in the harbour I tried a bit more fishing but still nothing, at least there wern’t any Leather jackets in the harbour and one bait lasted me a whole half an hour!

Back on the beach and time to head home

Image

Ah well a morning on the water is still better than being at home…

Cheers, Mental
