Alarm goes off at 5:00am, oh really is it 5:00am already, doesn’t feel like I’ve had any sleep, I’m feeling like this whole thing is getting a bit much, ah well, time to get up and head to Narrowneck…
On the beach at 5:30am, still dark, but heaps of kayakers everywhere, even some in the water already!
Paddled over to the Rangitoto side of the channel and headed for number ten bouy and drifted north up the channel, lots and lots of knocks and bites, hooked up on a couple of small Snapper but nothing up as far as the kayak.
I couldn’t believe the number of boats that came to join us, there were boats everywhere, felt like we were drifting through a boat park.
I was now half way between number ten bouy and Rangi light, still getting the odd bite and hook up, then BANG big bite, big hookup, yay at last, a good five minute fight followed, although it was not helped by the fact that my braid was spinning on the spool, there’s a job for later today, at last a nice big red breaks the surface, pulled it to the side of the yak and AARRGGHHHHH the hook pulls out! Estimated about 650/700mm…
Ah well it’s now about 8:00am, the tide as just started to turn, the bite has gone off (for everyone not just me), so time to call it quits and head back it, did a bit of fishing on the way back but nothing…
No fish pictures today so here’s one of a container ship heading out of Auckland that we had to get out of the way of…
