Yay, day 29, the end is now well and truly in sight! As you know I didn’t go North for the weekend and ended up back in Auckland yesterday afternoon. Was good to surprise the family as they didn’t know I was heading back, there was another reason for coming back to Auckland…

The other reason was 4.7 meters long and was at the Johnson Outdoors factory in Silverdale, yes my custom green Ocean Kayak Prowler Ultra 4.7 was ready and waiting for me to pick up! So quick stop at home to drop off my Ocean Kayak Prowler Elite 4.5 and back to Silverdale to pick it up. Got it home and spent a couple of hours pulling my Humminbird 798ci off the Elite and fitting it to the Ultra, much easier to fit to the Ultra than it was the Elite that’s for sure. Add the KayakFishingNZ sticker and we are ready to go!

Alarm was set for 4:45am – up and out was the order of the morning whilst trying not to wake the rest of the house hold. Met up with a bunch of mates from the KayakFishingNZ forum and we paddled off in the dark towards Rangitoto in hunt of our dinners. Lots of good sign on the sounder but nothing interested in feeding yet, then the sun decided to start to join us about 6:30am.

Fishing started to pick up around 7:30am with a stream of Snapper and a nice Trevally (another new species for the thirty day challenge), here are a few photos!

Several other Snapper were released too, I just needed enough to give family and friends a feed. Here is an action shot of me in the new kayak…

And the fish on the end of that bent rod.

Final day tomorrow, not sure where yet so watch this space..!

    Looks good in green!
Don’t try and pretend you came home to see us though :)
Oooh and the trev was lovely for dinner last night; coated in sesame seeds then panfried and served with salad (and chips for Jason – he is English afterall) :)
