Archives for 2010
Another day another new location, this time I fished out of Marsden Marina, I launched and went with the current flow out past the timber port and carried on past the oil refinery wharf too.
Here we are day six already, that’s 20% of the way through! Tonights fishing was done in another new location, Tutukaka harbour.
Weather up here is still not great for kayak fishing but hey still worth a shot. Managed to get out of Whangaumu without too much trouble but after battling with the wind and the swell when I got there the open ocean wasn’t very inviting at all…
I’m back in Ngunguru now, so back fishing local, the weather has turned for the worse though, a steady 30 knot wind with a good 40 knot gust pretty much made kayak fishing out the window, so I dropped back to a bit of fishing off the rocks.
At midnight we made the call to move from the Barrier to the Coromandel because the weather heading our way was not good, with a forecast of 40-50 knot winds we wouldn’t have been getting home in a hurry. It turns out though that even when we got to the Coromandel that conditions wouldn’t let [...]
Another great days fishing at the Barrier again, same as yesterday it was done in the morning and afternoon from my kayak, followed by a quick evening fish from one of the tenders.
Right well here we go, the first day, and what a place to start it, I’m fishing at Great Barrier Island! I came here with a group of fellow kayak fishers from KayakFishingNZ.com aboard the Lara Star, we are here for three days in total so expecting to catch a few fish…
Yes I’m four days into the 30 days, will be trying to post daily but with being at the Barrier, and having to traverl from Auckland back to Whangarei posting time has been limited to say the least, I’m fishing tonight after work, don’t know where or how yet, it’s blowing a gale and pouring [...]
Yay, looks like the 30Fish challenge is going to be picked up and covered by the good folk at Bayfisher magazine, will post more details once confirmed.
Ok, I’m only a few days away from starting this thing, I’m leaving Auckland on board Red Quarters and heading to Great Barrier island for the long weekend, so the first three days of the 30 day challenge will be spent fishing at Great Barrier!
Up at 5:15, on the beach at 5:30, paddling out the harbour to watch the sun rise
Well the family headed back to Auckland this morning, so what to do after work... Yea I know, I'll go fishing, so out the Hospital at 5:00, drive to Ngunguru, load the kayak, put on some gear and drive around the corner to Whangaumu. Not having looked at any charts or anything, hey this is the North it's full of fish anywhere will do... So I was out there for about two hours and here's how it went down...
Well I’m all moved in to Ngunguru, been on a few walk abouts to check out the local spots, there are some very fishiy looking spots to check out in the Ngunguru / Tutukaka / Matapori areas.
The first sponsor is on board and getting behind 30Fish, K-Labs – www.klabs.co.nz – They have come forward with some of their Flurocarbon leader in a range of breaking strains on 50 yard wheel dispensers. Thanks guys!
